Tholons, the leading full-service strategic advisory firm, released its 2014 ranking of top outsourcing destinations in the world. Manila overtook Mumbai, India to take the second spot, Cebu City took the eighth spot while other business process outsourcing (BPO) “next wave” cities such as Davao, Sta. Rosa (Laguna), Bacolod, Iloilo and Baguio placed in the top 100.
The requirement for BPO employees in the country is expected to reach 1.3 million people in 2016. The BPO industry association, IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IT-BPAP), says this huge demand comes with the need for training and specific education. IT-BPAP says that only nine of 100 applicants are hired for entry-level positions, and 20 to 40 initial rejects require additional training. Prized skills are good communications, computer competency and critical thinking.
